Become a Coach

If you are interested in being considered for a coaching position for a WYHA team, you must first read and agree to the Coaches Code of Conduct. By submitting an application to become a coach, you agree to the terms set forth within the Coaches Code of Conduct.

Each coach must register first with USA Hockey and then return to this registration session to sign up for this year's hockey season. Doing so helps us confirm the status of your certifications with USA Hockey, however, that is ultimately YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.  Ensure you use the same name with which you registered with USA Hockey in the past (i.e., don’t use “Jim” if you registered as “James”) when updating your hockey number registration.  In any event, you will need to have a USA Hockey number to complete the pre-season requirements being imposed by USA Hockey each year.

The pre-season requirements include all of the below. Consider getting a head start on these requirements prior to coach selection as there is little time between selection and the first practice. Sometimes only a couple of days.

  1. Register for a USA Hockey Number.
  2. Complete your CEP Certification; if necessary.
  3. Complete your background check.
  4. Complete your annual SafeSport certification.
  5. Complete your Age specific modules.
  6. Submit the Coaching Application & Registration once the above steps are complete.

If you don’t follow these requirements, you will not be eligible to coach and will not get your volunteer hour credits.

If you attempt to get on the ice before fulfilling these requirements, you will be in violation of USA Hockey, WYHA policies and will be subject to discipline.
